CHARLESTON, W.Va. – State motorists renew their E-ZPass at a reduced price through the West Virginia Parkways Authority.
In recent days, Parkways has reminded account holders that they can renew their account online for the one-time fee reduction program that began three years ago. The price drops from the initial cost of $ 24 for three years to $ 26.25 per year starting Jan. 1.
“We have provided, I think, sufficient notification to all of these account holders to give them the opportunity to renew and do so before the increase goes into effect on January 1,” said Jeff Miller, Executive Director of Parkways. Authority.
Those who renew before January 1 can do so for $ 25 for the following year. However, January 1 is not a strict deadline to continue participating in the program. Miller said motorists can renew anytime over the next year.
“Some people contacted us and asked us this question and we explained to them that they are more than welcome to wait after Jan 1 anytime and it will be $ 26.25 and it is good for 12 months to from the date of activation, ”Miller said.
About 180,000 motorists took advantage of the program three years ago. Miller said he hoped those motorists found it useful and would renew it at the higher rate which he said is still heavily discounted.
“It helps the flow of traffic through the toll gates and certainly just the ease of access and the cost savings you get, essentially two trips up and down the toll highway that it will pay. himself, ”Miller said.
As previously reported, tolls increase on the 88-mile toll highway starting Jan. 1, from $ 4.00 per toll for passenger vehicles to $ 4.25 per toll.
The 5% mark-up will also apply to commercial traffic. The new toll rates for most semi-trailers will be $ 14.25 per toll. These can also benefit from a reduction via E-ZPass.
The Parkways Authority had walk-in services available at the Charleston and Beckley headquarters last weekend for customers looking for information on the change. The customer service office also stayed open longer during the work week.
