Allen County Commissioners are concerned about liability issues at one of their county-owned facilities and are looking for ways to limit them.
Discussions are underway with the Veteran’s Memorial Civic and Convention Center and Wingate by Wyndham regarding open access to the north side of the Civic Center that connects the hotel. There were several incidents where people who had no reason to be in the building were there. The 3 are working together to find a solution to ensure the security of the facility while meeting the needs of customers renting the space.
Wingate by Wyndham General Manager Jason Gillespie said, “Just to be able to attend the event. Have a great time while they are here and everyone comes home happy. So you know we want to be able to make sure that we have access to what we need, and our guests have access to it. “
Allen County Commissioner Cory Noonan adds, “You can’t have two better entities to work with to try to find a solution and that’s what we’re going to do. We are exploring some parking options for patrons and clients. I think that in the end everything will work out and it will protect the users and it will protect the properties.
The discussion led to the possibility of changing parking access to the hotel parking lot could make a big change in the way guests would enter the hotel.
