Air Canada’s new status connection offer is fast, easy and widely available. Even travelers who do not have traditional frequent flyer status may be eligible for a connection up to level 75K, offering perks such as free checked baggage, free preferential seating, or access to airport lounges when ‘they travel with Air Canada or other Star Alliance airlines.
Air Canada Free Aeroplan Status
Air Canada currently offers Aeroplan status connections to qualifying frequent flyers based in the United States who already hold status with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue or Southwest Airlines.
Notably, even Southwest Companion Pass Holders qualify for Aeroplan level 75K equivalency status. This is one of the few “statuses” that can be achieved entirely without flying, making it an unusual opportunity for some travelers to claim elite status. Unfortunately, United flyers cannot take part in this game, possibly because they are a direct competitor within Star Alliance.
Those who qualify will be matched to Air Canada’s equivalent status level in Aeroplan Elite unconditionally until December 31, 2021 with the option of extending it until the end of 2022.
The match is open until the end of December 2021 or until they have allowed a maximum of 20,000 matches, which will likely happen well before the December deadline. Take action now if you want to participate.
Extension of the status until 2022
Although Elite status is granted for free until December 31, 2021, members have the option to extend their status until December 31, 2022 to enjoy an additional year of benefits.

How to process your status match with Air Canada Aeroplan
Frequent travelers can request an online status match process without jumping through hoops.
The simple, easy-to-understand form only requires a few pieces of information, including your name, email address, Aeroplan membership number, and the frequent flyer account membership number you will be matched from. If you are not already a member of Air Canada Aeroplan, you must first register.
In order to prove your current status and eligibility, you will also need a photo of your Elite card or a screenshot of your online account to verify your eligibility. Overall, the form should only take a minute or two to complete, depending on how quickly you can get proof of your current status.
According to the website, your account will be verified and updated within five business days, although the anecdotal reports were as short as an hour. You can check the status of your request online using the confirmation number provided after submission.
Benefits of Aeroplan Elite status
As with all airlines, the benefits for elite travelers increase based on your qualification level, but even low-level travelers corresponding to the 25K level will receive benefits when traveling with Air Canada.
Basic benefits available to all Elite members include priority economy seat, priority boarding, free baggage, and bonus points when earning Aeroplan Miles (including on partner airlines). Elite level 50K and above, which can be matched by American Airlines Platinum Pro, Delta Platinum, Alaska MVP Gold 75K or the Southwest Companion Pass, also includes access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Gold Star Lounges Alliance worldwide for you and a guest traveling on the same flight.
To take advantage of the benefits, you will need to provide your Aeroplan number when booking. Then, all the benefits will be automatically available upon presentation of your boarding pass. A digital membership card will also be available in the Air Canada app.
What’s the catch?
The Status Match is completely free and does not require a credit card to participate. However, your Elite status is temporary and will automatically expire on December 31, 2021 if you do not take an eligible round-trip flight with Air Canada during the promotional period or on December 31, 2022 if the status extension is granted. Subsequently, you will need to re-qualify for status under Air Canada’s terms and conditions.
Air Canada also notes that customers who participate in this promotion will not be eligible for further status match within the next two years. If you don’t plan to travel with Air Canada or Star Alliance Airlines in 2021-2022, you may want to wait for a future Status Match opportunity instead.
Frequent travelers based in the United States can apply for a status match with Air Canada Aeroplan by the end of the year with the option to extend their elite status until December 31, 2022.
