World Car Free Day is September 22, and you can join the movement by ditching your vehicle for more environmentally friendly transportation.

The Cincinnati Metro and Access Paratransit offers free all-day rides to celebrate this international initiative, which “encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day and promotes public transit, biking, walking, driving. carpooling and telecommuting, ”according to a statement.

They also have a plethora of activities from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Fountain Square, including live music from 3 Piece Revival, free Snappy Tomato pizza, freebies, and prizes.

And if you can’t party Car Free Day, you can click until September 25 and take a car-free pledge to enter to win other freebies, like a four-pack Cincinnati Cyclones ticket or a $ 100 Hard Rock Casino gift card.

“Metro is excited to join communities around the world to highlight the importance of reducing people’s dependence on cars and celebrating alternative modes of getting where they need to go,” said the CEO of Metro, Darryl Haley, in the same release. “With the recent rollout of our far-reaching Reinvent the Metro service enhancements, we’re striving to make it easier than ever to enjoy the many benefits of public transit, whether you choose to travel for environmental, economic or practical purposes. ”

The Reinventing Metro plan offers 24/7 trips on seven routes, as well as more frequent or longer hours on others. The five-year plan also includes goals to build new transit centers, improve on-board technology and WiFi, and add new routes.
