Harbor Link inaugurates a new telecommunications infrastructure project in Baltimore | Your money

Harbor Link Holdings LLC, a Maryland-based company and leader in telecommunications infrastructure, today announced that it has groundbreaked construction of a new 60-mile diverse driving route intended to improve the connectivity between Baltimore, Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia. The route includes a conduit for fiber optic cables to enable high-speed, multi-lane connectivity along the busy I-95 corridor. The underground infrastructure system will provide local and long distance dark fiber capacity, with over 300 easy access points to enable connectivity to bridge the digital divide for underserved communities along the route.

New route provides dual-diversity paths along I-95 and Maryland RT-97, bolstering connectivity from Baltimore, MD to Northern Virginia, home to largest data center and network connectivity hub in the world. This vital corridor currently has limited access to dark fiber – raw data pipes that can be lit and maintained by private network providers and operators for improved data transmission and security.

Key highlights of the new conduit route include:

  • 60 miles of completely new driving
  • Varied dueling paths along I-95 and MD RT-97
  • 300 easy access points to the conduit system from Maryland to Northern Virginia
  • Full channel resiliency, diversity and redundancy
  • End-to-end sub-millisecond connectivity from Baltimore to Northern Virginia

“This project is the culmination of many years of work, and it is exciting to get this new fiber optic conduit system up and running if needed,” said Felix Dialoiso, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Harbor Link. “As the digital divide continues to affect underserved and minority communities, we are committed to bridging the divide to empower residents, businesses and communities with accessible and affordable high-speed fiber optic solutions, enabling wireless capabilities 5G and improving internet access for as many people as possible.”

Harbor Link supports equal opportunities for all, and the use of its conduit and dark fiber system is available for large operators to improve and increase their network footprint with access to a more diverse route and redundant. Without massive capital investments, governments, enterprises and carriers can access dark fiber to deliver their own enlightened services, providing an alternative option to traditional legacy network operators.

The new Harbor Link infrastructure project will provide much-needed route diversity to support track resiliency and provide sub-millisecond end-to-end connectivity between Baltimore and Northern Virginia. Future phases may consist of network extensions further into Virginia, Delaware and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Harbor Link is offering flexible leases on either monthly or long-term unbreakable right-of-use (IRU) contracts, the network is expected to be ready for operation by the first quarter of 2023.
