Clarivate shares 2021 newspaper citation reports and implements newspaper citation indicator

Clarivate deployed on 2021 Journal Citation Reports, with this year’s edition with expanded content, a new newspaper citation indicator (to complement the newspaper impact factor), and an updated user interface. Based on 2020 data compiled from Web of Science Core Collection, the release helps researchers assess global academic journals using a variety of metrics, descriptive data, and visualizations. University publishers also use it to study the impact of their journals and promote them to the research community.

The highlights of the 2021 edition are as follows:

  • [M]more than 20,000 journals [come] from 113 countries on five continents and 254 research categories in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
  • Over 14,000 journals have at least one Gold Open Access publication, of which over 4,600 are fully Open Access.
  • The Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI) and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) will be included in the [Journal Citation Reports] for the first time this year, accounting for over 70% more content.
  • Developed by the Scientific Information Institute (ISI) of Clarivate, [the Journal Citation Indicator] represents the average citation impact normalized by category for articles published in the previous three years, providing a single journal-level measure that can be easily interpreted and compared across disciplines.
